Thank you?

Mon Nov 10, 2008, 6:18 AM
I recently got one of my pieces "faved" by a fellow Deviant, an as is custom, thanked them for doing so. In return I got a message asking me not to thank them as they find "self promotion" annoying. Is it me, or is this a little over the top. I was raised in a time when saying please, thank you and the like were just common practice ( and I am not much older than some of you out there, and would definitely not be considered an old guy) So please chime in so I can see if I am wrong...Does saying "thank you" make you an opportunist trying to get more page-hits, or merely show you have some manners? I would also like to say thank you for reading this and ask you to please be honest. Thank you

  • Drinking: Chai Tea, thank you

People are so fucking uptight and selfish.

On both sides of the fence, really-- I have had people leave HUGE ads for themselves on my page when a 'thankyou' would do, and also been asked not to thank, in that uptight tone... wtf.

Yeah, manners are lacking severely, especially here. I don't know another net community where people are so rude about things, except the chans and that's kind of thier thing so it can be forgiven. Here?

I wanna kick thier arses.

i think their rudeness at the concept of being polite shows heavily of their character. It's just sad, and unfortunately more and more common.

They should try not being polite in other countries and see how far they get.

I hardly see how a 'thank you' (even if it mentions the specific reason for the thanks.... in bright red, 72 pt., upper-case, Goudy Extra-Bold... accompanied by a friggin' chorus line of performing emoticons) constitutes 'annoying self-promotion'!
I'd say it's time for someone to either quit faving altogether, or block their comment page.
Now that I think of it, isn't the very act of having a DA site and/or posting something on DA a bit of 'self-promotion'?:O_o:

Yeah, I had thought of that, and was going to even reply saying so...but I didn't think I would get too far with that one...

This is actually the first time I had ever been asked NOT to say Thank you....ahhh the youth of today

It's odd...I would,by definition, be classed as anti-social..you know, "quiet guy, kept to himself", but I still use my manners. Living in Canada, we are sort of known for our politeness (even if it may not be always true!), so I am glad this isn't just me who gets worked up...

definitely not. I'd be described the same way, and I'm very much about manners. My friend at work is even more so. He notes everyone that isn't polite when he opens a door for someone, etc.

I myself believe it's only common courtesy, I myself love it that the artist took the time to say thank you to a little peon such as myself, it shows they care about their "fans" (for lack of a better word, my apologies, but do you see what I'm getting at?), and also that they're not too "above" everyone else to be polite. So thank you, sir, for being humble and not stuck up, it is appreciated.
